Pro-Public Education

I am the only candidate in the race who is pro-public education. My opponent, Debby Potter, will fight for vouchers, which will strip hundreds of millions from our schools. This will lead to increased class sizes, staff reductions, the elimination of extra-curricular activities, school closures, and/or tax increases.

I am a strong supporter of teachers, staff and full funding for public education. Our communities thrive when we value our schools. Public education is under attack, and it will be in this race. This November, we can stand up for the importance of public education and ensure the children of Kansas get the education they deserve.

Experienced

I spent more than 8 years on the Board of Education in Maize, including four years as the President. I saw first-hand the hard work and dedication of the teachers, administrators and staff to ensure our students were successful. I also am a 28-year educator at Wichita State University where I currently work as the Director of the School of Communication.

Support For All Students

I will partner with local school districts to improve achievement. Debby Potter would abandon struggling students by allowing kids to drop out after the 6th grade.

The mission of the State Board of Education "is to prepare Kansas students for lifelong success through rigorous, quality academic instruction, career training and character development according to each student's gifts and talents." I strongly support the mission. It should guide decision-making and lead to student success. As a board member, I will support the Kansas Department of Education and all of our local school districts as they strive to meet this mission.
